Start with the decision you're facing. Each guide compares the options side by side in a table, gives our planning ranges from the same price tables as our service pages, explains the Florida and local rules with sources, and ends with a short FAQ. For quick answers to single questions, see the remodeling FAQ; for the rules on accessory dwelling units, see ADU rules by city.

FAQ

Common questions

From the same planning tables as our service pages, updated October 2026: the guides quote those ranges rather than inventing new figures. They are planning ranges, not quotes; every project is priced in a written, itemised estimate after a site visit.
Each rule is checked against the primary source, such as the state statutes on leg.state.fl.us, the Florida Building Commission, FEMA or the city or county code, and each guide lists its sources with the date they were checked. Rules change, so confirm them for your address.
Greater Orlando: Seminole County (including Oviedo, Winter Springs, Lake Mary and Sanford), Orange County (including Orlando, Winter Park and Winter Garden) and Osceola County (Kissimmee, St. Cloud and Celebration). Local rules are noted where they differ.
